In the independent test below the first sample is gas and water as the control, 2nd is Stabil added, 3rd Sample is Startron Added and the last Sample has K100 added. All contain Gas and Water. Notice in the K100 sample the water did not separate even after 1 year.

K100 vs MIB (Mechanic in a Bottle) as a Cleaner

Ok, so where I work we use both mechanic in a bottle and k100. Half of us believe in k100 and the other half MIB. I've seen the demonstration about how well they stabilize and how clean they burn. Both MIB and k100 are about identical in these areas. However, according to the "test" I just did today at work, only one cleans as expected... I propped up one side of this badly gunked carb bowl and added straight MIB and let it soak for 15 minutes like the recommendation on the bottle. I then did the same to the other side but used straight k100. Within 2 minutes the bowl was being stripped clean. The picture shows the left side of the bowl after 5 minutes with k100 and the right side of the bowl after 15 minutes with Mechanic In a Bottle! I know what I won't be wasting my money on!
Personal Test: I had a mis 80's model Techumseh on a Craftsman Snowblower in the shop that would barely run at all. No idle and constantly surging on high speed. I pulled off the carb and cleaned it. One problem.. Carb cleaner could not penetrate thru the buildup in the idle jets. I soaked the carb in K100 overhight and the next morning the correct "spray" pattern would come out of the idle jets. Now it works like it was new and I have another happy customer.
